Part of the Forestry Sciences book series (FOSC, volume 3)

The forest is a valuable resource for national economic development. Utilization of the forest creates jobs, which train people in valuable skills of modern production, technology, marketing and research. At the same time, its wise use brings in needed tax and other income, including foreign exchange. Finally, the forest has the potential, through careful management, of providing these benefits in perpetuity as each successive harvest supplies the income to fund reforestation and other forest management activities (cf. Chapter I-1).
