Abstract

Ever since its creation, some 12 years ago, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has provided technical assistance to existing plants, prepared studies for establishing new industries, conducted investment promotion meetings, workshops, expert group meetings and training courses for participants from developing countries to help these countries in establishing or developing their wood processing industry. The points raised in this chapter are not intended to serve as a case study on the conditions in any particular country, but are a compilation of problems which UNIDO has found to exist in a number of developing countries and it provides suggestions on how they could be overcome with the co-operation of trade and industry in developed countries.
