Abstract
While the aim of this book is both to describe the different aspects of prominences and to understand the physics behind the various manifestations, the emphasis will be on the latter. Consequently, we shall devote considerable space to the mathematical and physical background necessary to interpret the often confusing observational information gathered by a great variety of instruments.
