Abstract
Often a body of literature takes on a personality of its own as it comes to reflect the values and concerns of its contributors. Even reviewers, through the standards they set and the criteria they offer, tend to shape the direction of future research efforts. This review of the reviews will analyze the maritaltherapy-outcome literature as an organic whole, as a “client” with a history to be understood and a prognosis to be predicted. By analyzing the “behavior” of this body of literature, looking at what has been done and what has been omitted, we will try to see what steps are needed to make it healthier and more productive in the future.
