Apoptosis during early somatic embryogenesis in Picea spp.

Part of the book series: Forestry Sciences ((FOSC,volume 55))

Abstract

Plants comprise at least two main groups of cells, one involved in nuclear and cell division (free-nuclear cycling, mitosis, meiosis, etc.) and other in differentiation, specialized functions, maturation, senescence and aging. An important question is how a long-term commitment is made between the genetic control of divisional cycles, specialized functions, and terminal differentiation in cell populations in an intact plant body (Havel and Durzan 1996a).
