Abstract
It is well known that H. Weyl’s conceptions in the foundations of mathematics underwent several changes. Beisswanger [Beisswanger 1965] talks of three phases which can roughly be described as an (early) constructivist one from about 1910 to about 1919, with its high point in the publication of “Das Kontinuum”, an intuitionistic phase from about 1920 until the middle of the 1920s, and a third phase from the middle of the 1920s onward, with a rapprochement to Hilbert’s axiomatic program in a critical but open-minded mode. S. Feferman, in [Feferman 1988] and the contribution to this volume, even hints at another change later in Weyl’s life, i.e., after 1945, when the latter reconsidered his own early attempts for a constructive foundation of analysis and evaluated them as an essential step towards a preferable constructive solution to the foundational problem. In this last change Weyl drew the conclusions from the new situation which had arisen for the formalist foundational program from the impact of Gödel’s result.1
