Abstract
For systems in equilibrium the most appropriate ensemble for dealing with condensed matter is the grand-canonical one (this also involves the case when the average number of quasiparticles — like phonons and photons — is not given corresponding to take as null the chemical potential). For systems out of equilibrium in the most general conditions a most appropriate nonequilibrium ensemble is the one that can be considered as the nonequilibrium generalized grand-canonical ensemble, which we describe in this chapter.
