Abstract
The positive column plasma of a d.c. discharge is a laboratory low temperature plasma object, which has been studied extensively by intensity optical spectroscopic methods and by the electric probe technique. The properties of a d.c. discharge are well known, which make this object valuable for checking new diagnostic techniques. Therefore, the diagnostics capabilities of polarization spectroscopy can then be tested by comparison of the data obtained using independant methods of probing d.c. discharges.
