Abstract

The term specific reading and/or spelling disorder (synonym: “dyslexia; “developmental dyslexia”) is used to characterize disorders in which the main feature is a serious impairment in the development of reading or spelling skills which is not explicable in terms of general intellectual retardation or inadequate schooling. First descriptions were given by Berkhan (1885, 1886), Hinshelwood (1904) and Morgan (1896).
