Abstract

The inclusion of verbal uncertainty into a civil engineering decision system can be accomplished by the use of fuzzy set theory. The fuzzy set is defined, and then the specific operations of complement, union, intersect, relation and composition are constructed. With this mathematical background the organization of a fuzzy decision logic is demonstrated. Additionally, methodologies for determining fuzzy supports and the use of entropies to obtain combined random and fuzzy probabilities are examined.
