Modern drilling and blasting techniques in underground mining

  • Chapter
Mining Latin America / MinerĂa Latinoamericana

Abstract

In spite of the relatively low cost of labour, several big mines in Latin America (especially in Chile and Peru) have realized the importance of adoptation of modern techniques and equipment. Many of the mining companies have already proved that this is resulting in increased productivity at better costs per man ton than with the systems previously practiced. Many problems, however, occur when new technology is being applied but considerable improvements can be expected in the future.
