Abstract

Design support by means of computers is currently, in most cases still implemented by means of a number of different computer programs each developed for a specific purpose. As a consequence integration of design contributions requires a lot of discussion, mostly carried out in design teams. Experience has learned that a large part of these discussions is spent on trying to agree on a set of terms to describe the design object. Due to the fact that terminology origins from a specialism, the larger part of these discussion is irrelevant to the design project simply because people try to agree on terms that are defined from a different perspective and have a different meaning.

This paper presents the current state of a design support method and the set of proograms that has been developed to support this method, being the result of a research project on collaborative design support as was done at TNO.
