Turbulence Structure of Wavy Stratified Air-Water Flow

  • Chapter
Gas Transfer at Water Surfaces

Part of the book series: Water Science and Technology Library ((WSTL,volume 2))

Abstract

Experimental results on kinematic structure of the liquid phase in developing and fully developed stratified gas-liquid flow are presented. The main role of the transport in turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) and shear stress balance is shown: it is considered as responsible of the secondary flow generation. When secondary flows are not important a diffusive length scale can be determined linked with wave characteristics.
