Correspondence and Reduction in Chemistry

  • Chapter
Correspondence, Invariance and Heuristics

Part of the book series: Boston Studies in the Philosophy of Science ((BSPS,volume 148))

Abstract

In his classic paper Heinz Post makes several references to the field of chemistryl. For example, he writes:

The chemical atom is no longer strictly an atom, yet whatever revolutions may occur in fundamental physics, the ordering of chemical atoms will remain. (Post 1971, p. 237)
