Abstract

The title is by Helmut Wagner for Schutz’s review of Marvin Farber’s The Foundation of Phenomenology: Edmund Husserl and the Quest for a Rigorous Science of Philosophy, published in 1943 by Harvard University Press. The review was originally published in Philosophical Abstracts. Wagner noted that Farber’s book appeared when the journal, Philosophy and Phenomenological Research had entered the fourth year of its publication, and when there was a period of close collaboration between Farber, its editor in chief, and his foremost Central-European consultants: Felix Kaufmann, Herbert Spiegelberg, and Alfred Schutz.1 Schutz’s review pays hommage to Farber’s careful study of the early work of Husserl up to and including the Logical Investigations.
