Abstract
This text consists of an unpublished letter to Felix Kaufmann of 17 September, 1945.1 The translation and the title are by Helmut Wagner who surmised that Schutz responds in the letter to Kaufmann’s criticism of a paper written by Schutz and sent to Kaufmann. The paper is not named, nor does the letter provide certain identification of the paper in question. It was Wagner’s surmise that the paper is “On Multiple Realities” which was published in 1945 and certainly deals with the themes of experience in the life-world and scientific interpretation (among others). The letter has been edited to isolate its specifically scientific content and make even more explicit some of the ideas Schutz had been concerned with up to this time.
