Abstract
Conditions ε ≪ 1 and α ≪ 1, which are definitive for KΩ-systems (Sect. 9.6), hold for many physical and chemical systems (Ch. 4 – 8). For most systems of this kind we have l= (D θ τ θ )1/2 and L=(D η τ η )1/2, where D θ and D η are the coefficients of diffusion for, respectively, activator θ and inhibitor η. Also, ε = (αD θ /D η )1/2; usually, ε is small because α = τ θ /τ η ≪ 1 is small. As a consequence, various relationships between ε and α are possible in such KΩ-systems depending on the D θ /D η ratio.
