Abstract
The material presented in this book forms a basis for parametrizing the interaction between the ocean and the atmosphere, taking into account the character of the energy and mass transfer during a storm. Of the various transfer mechanisms operating at the air-sea interface during a storm, we have considered in detail only one: the transfer of heat and mass by the spray, which under these conditions fills the air layer immediately above the water. It is shown, however, that along with turbulent exchange, it is precisely this mechanism which determines the vertical fluxes of heat and moisture during a storm.
