Electron Impact Ionisation of Hydrogen-Like Ions

  • Chapter
The Physics of Multiply and Highly Charged Ions

Abstract

Removal of the final, tightly bound electron from an ion by electron impact is discussed. The experimental methods used to obtain absolute or relative cross sections for this process are reviewed. Several analytical formulations which may be used to calculate these cross sections are considered and compared to the limited data available for high-Z systems.
