Abstract

The surface water resources of the Brahmaputra basin are not adequate, under present condition to meet water demands during the rabi season. There is, however, ample ground water potential in the basin but it has not yet been fully exploited. Therefore groundwater needs to be developed without further delay. This chapter discusses ground water prospecting, development and management, as well as the ensuing environmental impact.
