Partial Protein Sequence of the Subunit Delta from Spinach and Maize CF1 and Topographical Studies on the Binding Region between CF1 and CFo

  • Chapter

Abstract

It is well accepted that within the photosynthetic ATPsynthase CF1CFo the site of ATP synthesis is located in the peripheral CF1, on the beta subunit, whereas the integral CFo is conducting H+ down the ΔμH+ -gradient. According to current theories two energy transforming reactions take place: The electrochemical gradient of H+ brings about a conformational change that in turn enables CF1 to produce ATP against the thermodynamic equilibrium.
