Biofilms and Macroorganisms

  • Chapter
Fossil and Recent Biofilms

Abstract

The heading frames a wide range of possible meeting points between biofilms and macroorganisms. To begin this chapter, it seems thus neccessary to select. In addition to the chapter in this volume on epizoic microbial growth on sessile encrusting metazoans (bryozoans), the main emphasis will be on non-sessile and non-encrusting metazoans co-existing with laminated microbial mats of shallow marine and coastal settings.
