Abstract

Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) belongs to the Pedaliaceae family is an annual and self-pollinated non-green oilseed crop. The seeds produce approximately 50% oil of their dry weight and are mostly consumed as edible oil or an additive in food for special flavor. Although oil content and composition of cultivated sesame seeds was known, the metabolic pathways and the related genes responsible for accumulation of the seed-storage lipids from photosynthate, and the regulatory mechanism that determines the partitioning of seed reserves into the storage lipid are little understood.
