Abstract
In its most general formulation, our theoretical problem is to show how individual actors located in the structure of any given social system acquire a stable image of that structure that varies with the location. This is the problem of deriving structural images and their structural basis. A second general problem is then to show how actors locate themselves within their structural image. A third general problem is to generate images of the shape of the structure, the distribution of actors in it.
