Part of the book series: Solid Mechanics and Its Applications ((SMIA,volume 104))

Abstract

The mechanics of ply formation in DNA supercoils is examined in the light of recent progress. Derived constitutive relations are confirmed by laboratory tests on mechanical models. Derivation of writhe and link from a DNA micrograph is demonstrated.
