Part of the Astrophysics and Space Science Library book series (ASSL, volume 260)

In the last few decades when the active human penetration in space has begun, the researchers have clearly faced by new problems associated with radiation and biological action of cosmic rays: radiation hazard in space flights; radiation effects of cosmic rays in the search for traces of life on other planets, in the biological conquest of extraterrestrial territories; indirect influence of cosmic rays on the biosphere through their action on the upper layers of the atmosphere (see Chapter 10).
