Abstract

Several contributions in the present volume show that the relationship between nature and tourism is not without tension. In some cases, tourism and nature are largely separate, but, more often than not, tourists prefer to spend their leisure time in beautiful natural areas, where serving tourists facilities are available. From the perspective of improving the biodiversity of natural areas, tourism is an opportunity as well as a threat. By experiencing the beauty of nature, tourists can learn and appreciate its richness and develop an awareness of the importance of nature as part of a national heritage. But by travelling around and living in these beautiful areas, tourists can spoil elements of nature and contribute to the everlasting destructive influence of mankind on the surrounding natural resources.
