Abstract
The SKYNET 4D, 4E and 4F military communications satellites are built to the SKYNET 4 Stage 2 standard by Matra Marconi Space UK Ltd. This is an enhanced version of the Stage 1 satellites with tuneable UHF, increased UHF transponder power, and new Earth-cover helical UHF antenna designed and built by AEA Technology. The contract for the supply of the flight UHF antennas was awarded following the successful testing of the Qualification Model antenna. The 4D satellite was launched and the UHF antenna deployed on-orbit in January 1998.
