Abstract

NSPO is developing a Remote Sensing Data Acquisition System (DAS), a high rate X-band antenna system with data pre-processing and on-line data validation capabilities which aim to provide real-time high quality image data for ROCSAT-2 mission.

With the advances in the technology, the acquisition system is designed to be a very compact integrated ground station with efficient remote operation and control protocols and standard software systems. The system will be capable to process the X-band data with a rate of 150 Mbps or higher. The system will provide the real-time image data quality assessment and instrument trending analysis. The major functions to be performed include the following:

  • Radiometric data correction, including detector calibration, radiometric noise compensation, data normalization.

  • Geometric correction to compensate for any scanner effects and satellite motion.

  • Image data analysis with visual data analysis tools and algorithms for instrument performance trending and anomaly detection, and image data quality assessment.

  • Navigation measurement data to provide the orbit information.

The DAS will be developed with (1) generic features that can be customized for multiple satellites, (2) Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) products to minimize schedule and development risks, and (3) updated technologies for high rate, large volume and reliable image data processing. NSPO engineers will develop the DAS with the engineering supports from an experienced system contractor. The system will be implemented and operational ready for ROCSAT-2 mission by 2002.

In this paper, we will present the detailed implementation plan and how we will achieve mission goals.
