Long-Term Changes in the Total Solar Irradiance

Part of the book series: Astrophysics and Space Science Library ((ASSL,volume 239))

Abstract

During the past two decades, satellite observations have revealed that the total solar irradiance, S, changes both, on the short-time scale (Willson et al., 1981; Willson, 1982) and on the time scale of the solar cycle (Willson et al., 1986). These changes in solar output with magnetic activity could affect the terrestrial climate, especially if larger excursions occurred in the past.
