Modeling Magnetic Fields on Stars Other than the Sun

Abstract

The study of stellar magnetic fields plays a very important role in our understanding of star formation and evolution linking the photosphere to stellar interiors and to the circumstellar medium. The reliable determination of field geometries for a statistically significant number of objects will serve as a crucial test for existing and future stellar models.

We describe the two approaches that are used to detect and study magnetic fields on slow and fast rotating stars, outline our implementation of the magnetic spectral synthesis code and discuss certain difficulties related to the Feautrier technique. We also present the results of model calculations and the comparison with the observations.
