Screening in Germany: Carrier screening, pre-natal care and other screening projects

  • Chapter
The Ethics of Genetic Screening

Abstract

In Germany no carrier screening projects, no pilot studies about the requirements for population screening or its acceptance in a population are presently financed by institutions like the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) or Ministries of the Republic or the States. No proposal for a carrier screening programme or a pilot study has been submitted to the DFG. One project proposal for cystic fibrosis (CF) carrier screening has been rejected by this institution in 1989 because the outline did not meet the conditions for research-funding.
