Abstract
Following Locke, I have claimed that a self is no more than a series of interconnected activities, accompanied and guided by a common inner consciousness. According to this assumption, a human being will have a sense of self if and only if:
-
1.
he or she is active, mentally and bodily
-
2.
experiences some of these activities from the inside, first-person perspective, and
-
3.
is able to control — and has an experience of controlling — some of these activities.
