Bibliographical Notes
Contextual grammars with minimal and maximal use of selectors are introduced in [113]; grammars with a scattered use of contexts are also considered in that paper. Most of the results in Sections 9.1 and 9.2 are based on [113]. Slight improvements in the other results are given here. Lemma 9.15 is from [111]. Theorem 9.3 is from [110], where it is also observed that grammars with maximal use of selectors cover all the three basic non-context-free constructions in natural languages. Section 9.3 is based on [110], [112].
