Abstract
Using the functors Ext n in an appropriate category of functors MacLane ring cohomology [66] will be extended to a wider domain of applicability ensuring that it forms a right universal exact sequence of functors ; then it will be generalized to algebraic theories and its relationship with Barr and Beck’s cotriple cohomology [4] will be established. At the end of this section it will be shown that MacLane homology of discrete rings [66] is isomorphic to topological Hochschild homology.
