Analysis of the Distribution of Forest Fires in Russia

  • Chapter
Fire in Ecosystems of Boreal Eurasia

Part of the book series: Forestry Sciences ((FOSC,volume 48))

Abstract

Fire is a significant factor in the formation and maintenance of boreal forests and the structure and dynamics of the Russian Forest Fund. The effective management of natural fires, and the correct evaluation of the scale of its impact on forest ecosystems and environment is impossible without a clear understanding of the distribution and dynamics of forest fires, and the process of forest fire ignition and development. The purpose of this work is to estimate the temporal and spatial distribution of wildfires, and its dependence on natural and economic conditions, based on an analysis of longterm forest fire data from the Russian Territory.
