Everyday Conceptions of Emotion

Abstract

The representation of emotions may be seen as a protoypical scenario of attributes of affective states (Russell, 1991). The main type of attributes of affective states are: a) antecedents, or events which produce emotions; b) internal reactions (bodily and motor changes, subjective or “mental” changes); c) felt states of action-readiness, tendencies to act, instrumental and expressive behaviors; d) tendencies to cope and regulation (Russell, 1991; Mesquita & Frijda, 1992).
