Lipolytic Activity Isolated from Sunflower (Helianthus Annuus L.) Germinating Seed Spherosomes

  • Chapter
Plant Lipid Metabolism

Abstract

Lipolytic activity was well studied in animals and microorganisms. More recently plant lipases were investigated; only two have been purified to homogeneity: the lipase from the scutella of corn associated to “spherosomes” has a molecular weight of 65 kDa (1) lipase from castor bean (Ricinus communis) associated to “glyoxysomes”. This enzyme has a molecular weight of 62 kDa (2). What about sunflower ? As we expected, we have found a lipolytic activity in germinating sunflower seeds’ spherosomes and the “true” lipase was partially purified(3). In this paper we report a purification procedure to homogeneity of the sunflower spherosomal lipase.
