Abstract
Three couples have to be taken into account to advance in cognition researches: the couples formed by a priori and a posteriori, praxis and cognition, by model of cognition and model of the known, to which may be added the couple of realism and conceptualism (or conventionalism). A general model, called the model for the regulation of agonistic antagonistic couples (MRAAC) allowed us to better accept and even to simulate the dynamics of these couples without having to establish a hierarchy between the two elements of the couple or without having to search a middle way. We emphasize, for that matter, the similarities between the ‘model’ of the genetic epistemology (GE) — which is a model for cognitive activities — and the MRAAC — which is both a model of biological as it is for cultural systems. Such a type of cognitive praxis would give new possibilities of knowledge and action as far as bilateral strategies are concerned which are perhaps the sole strategies capable of avoiding the so-called ‘perverse’ effects of some unilateral strategies. As far as other epistemological ‘applications’ are concerned, we show how this model permits new interpretations of diverse philosophical or theological works. Finally, a few examples are evoked, demonstrating the fruitfulness of considering the circularity, the paradox, the double-bind, the agonistic antagonistic couple as a foundation (but how evanescent!) of cognition and praxis.
