Abstract
Medical observers have witnessed the evolution of haematology into a broad-based science that encompasses such disciplines as medicine, genetics, biochemistry, immunology, physical chemistry, cell biology and nuclear medicine. Through this evolutionary process the haematologist has acquired an arsenal of tools for the diagnosis and treatment of haematological disorders. Yet the basic approach remains the same — a detailed medical history, a thorough physical examination and laboratory tests. However, additional avenues are available through the judicious application of multidisciplinary aspects/features of haematology to confirm or reject a diagnosis.
