Abstract
Many of the chapters in this book deal with the broad issues of the inter-relationship between defence and civil research, and provide general reviews of issues related to spin-off and implications for both defence establishments and industry. This chapter is much more specific in nature, providing an international audience with information on one very specific new initiative in the United Kingdom in this field, namely, the work of Defence Technology Enterprises Ltd., (DTE). Moreover, the chapter moves from general background information and organisational details through to a number of specific case studies which will provide an interesting insight into the practicalities of civil spin-off under the arrangements described in the paper.
