Abstract
When we listen to a Zulu singing, we know he sounds quite different from a Japanese folk singer, and we may wonder at the reasons for this difference. Is it just the contrast in music — different melodies, rhythms, harmonies — that causes us to react differently to each singer, or is there something additional?
