Abstract

The task of stabilization entrusted to Du Bus had been successfully executed. Beyond that he had been able to do but little, undoing some of the most opposed measures of van der Capellen and suggesting a system of individualized and westernized agricultural enterprise which he thought would bring the desired results. In the field of trade relations he had not been able to contribute anything and in 1830 the imports of the Indies showed therefore a discouraging excess over the exports of about one million guilders 1.
