Abstract

To study some special theme in Max Scheler, it is necessary to locate that theme briefly within the totality of his thought. Scheler’s life and works as a whole are still relatively unknown to English readers. There is need for an introduction to the life, works and personality of Scheler and to the method, spirit and content of his philosophy. Scheler’s personality is an important factor in his total thought. Yet his thought must be studied carefully and critically in itself to discover where the real lines of inner unity and consistency lie. A comprehensive study of Scheler’s phenomenology of community must attempt to understand this topic within the context of his total philosophy.
