Abstract
This brings to an end the survey of pre-war Indonesian novel-writing. The discussion itself will have shown, I hope, how impossible it would be to attempt any strict periodization within this category, even though some kind of development can be pointed out by reference to some of the outstanding novels. There was, however, little differentiation in the main stream of literature, which is not surprising in view of the shortness of the period under discussion.
