Further Attempts to Co-Ordinate Western European Agricultural Policies

  • Alan David Robinson

Since the European Conference of Agriculture foundered in 1954, attempts to co-ordinate agricultural policies among the countries belonging to the Organisation for European Economic Co-operation (OEEC) have taken place in two main contexts. One of these has been the “confrontation” of agricultural policies in the Ministerial Committee for Agriculture and Food, set up early in 1955 within the framework of the OEEC in line with the suggestions of the European Conference of Agriculture. The other context has been the long series of intergovernmental discussions on finding a suitable relationship between the countries of the European Economic Community and the other countries of the OEEC.
