Résumé
Dans ce chapitre nous parlerons des salmonelloses dans les territoires situés au Sud du Congo-Léopoldville et du Tanganyika-Territory. Ils couvrent une superficie de 6.062.500 km2 et ont une population d’environ 35.500.000 habitants. Le nombre des médecins par rapport à la population diffère énormément d’une région à une autre. Il y a dans toute cette partie de l’Afrique à peu près 10.000 médecins, dont 9.000 exercent leur art dans la République de l’Afrique du Sud et plus ou moins 1.000 dans les autres territoires. La superficie de ces derniers est estimée à environ 4.838.200 km2. La plupart des médecins-internistes et pour ainsi dire tous les spécialistes pratiquent dans les grands centres: Johannesburg, Durban, Le Cap, Lourenço Marques, Luanda. Dans ces villes dont le niveau de vie est comparable à celui des grands centres européens ou américains, il y a 1 médecin pour 700 habitants, tandis que le nombre des praticiens est minime dans l’intérieur des territoires. Le chiffre plutôt théorique d’un médecin pour 3.500 habitants n’est que rarement atteint. Ainsi, dans le Swaziland, le Basutoland et le Bechuanaland on ne trouve qu’un médecin pour 30.000 habitants En conséquence, il existe des différences marquées dans le fonctionnement des services médicaux, et de ce fait nos connaissances des salmonelloses seront plus ou moins approfondies suivant les endroits ou les régions.
