Abstract
Today’s societies require increasing amounts of energy for domestic, industrial, commercial, agricultural, and transport uses. These energy needs are met by the commercial energy sources including the short-term, depletable fossil fuel supplies — petroleum, coal, and natural gas — as well as the long term, renewable sources — hydroelectric, biomass, solar, geothermal, wind, and tidal power (Munasinghe and Schramm, 1983).
