Abstract

In this chapter we shall be concerned with the circumstances of arrival of the present Polish Community in Great Britain and more particularly we shall trace the origin of each of the main components of the Polish Community. This type of treatment of the problem is of great importance in view of significant differences in the length of the period of residence among the different members of the Polish Community. This variable appears to be an important factor affecting the process of assimilation, and so does the origin of each group and circumstance of its arrival.
