The four elements, fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br) and iodine (I), constitute a well-marked group in the Periodic Classification (see p. 26), and show a number of similarities and progressive variations in their properties. All unite readily with the metals to form salts such as fluorides, chlorides, etc., many of which are of great importance in economic mineralogy.
